Today marks the 200th anniversary of the invention of the bicycle, and The A.V. Club decided to ride around the city of Chicago, paying tribute to the coolest use of a bicycle in recent memory: the “tiny planet effect” from the video for Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble.”
The effect is easy enough to pull off—if you have the money, of course. To start, you’ll need a 360-degree camera (we used this one), a selfie stick, a clamp, and a bicycle. After you have the footage, you’ll need to stitch it together with software, which often comes with many 360-degree cameras. If the camera you pick up doesn’t, you can use professional-grade (read: expensive) compositing or editing software like After Effects, but it’s far simpler to buy cheap 360-video editing software like Insta360.
And that’s it. So take advantage of the summer weather, and impress your friends with this neat visual trick.
